Tell Congress to Get Tough on Chemical Security

Tell your representatives in Congress that you want them to get tough on Chemical Security and support H.R. 2868, the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009 and close loopholes in the legislation designed to delay or undermine requirements to use safer chemicals. If our leaders would just say NO to the chemical lobby, Congress could pass a chemical security law that would protect the more than 100 million Americans now at risk. Dear Senators, Representative,

As a constituent living in I am concerned about the chemical plants in our state that put me in jeopardy.

I strongly urge you to strengthen  H.R. 2868, the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009. Remove any loopholes that undermine requirements to use safer chemicals and add strengthening amendments.

Did you know that an attack on one U.S. chemical plants could kill
thousands of people, but despite the warnings, nothing has been done to
prevent such a disaster? According to the EPA, there are about 100
chemical plants in the U.S. that each threaten a million or more people!

Please use your power in Congress to pass a law that would help protect
millions of Americans from undue danger.

H.R. 2868 should ensure the use of safer, cost-effective technologies to
reduce the terrible consequences of a terrorist attack at a chemical 
plant. The current temporary law actually bars safer technologies from being
required and exempts thousands of dangerous chemical plants entirely while relying solely on conventional security � guards, gates, and fences. This won�t reduce the staggering loss of life and injuries from a successful terrorist attack at a chemical plant.

Congress needs to pass a law that protects American communities still at risk by requiring high risk plants to uses the safest chemical technologies available.
