Globally, our oceans are in deep trouble (pun intended). Overfishing, pollution, bycatch and global warming are endangering the lives of marine creatures and habitat. Hell, we’re also endangering our lives if we don’t protect the oceans. We rely on the oceans for food, our livelihood and survival! Hands Off! In order to protect the world’s oceans, portions have to be left alone. That’s where marine reserves come into the picture. A marine reserve is like putting a giant “Do Not Disturb” sign around an area of the ocean. These protected areas are so important to the future of our oceans—giving wildlife a safe haven free from danger. Help today by signing our petition to set aside 40% of the world’s oceans as marine reserves. By convincing governments and the United Nations that marine reserves are critical to the oceans' future—we can put an end to global fisheries decline and habitat destruction. Petition We, the undersigned, support Greenpeace’s plan to protect 40 percent of the world’s oceans as marine reserves. We know that marine reserves are vital to restoring the health of our rapidly declining oceans. They can help restore marine biodiversity and put endangered species and habitat on the road to recovery. Marine reserves provide a safe-haven for marine life and give them the freedom to spawn, mate, and feed without the pressures of capture or habitat loss. We need strong solutions to combat the onslaught of pressures our oceans are facing—overfishing, bycatch, global warming, habitat loss and pollution. We support placing 40% of the world’s oceans as marine reserves as a way to protect our future and the future of our planet.
