My name is Jimi and I am an environmental activist. Every day as I ride the "L-train" into downtown Chicago, I get a birds-eye view of both coal burning power plants in Chicago Illinois. One is in Pilsen and the other in Little Village. I can see the smoke stacks clearly and the toxins they release into our air, water and soil pour out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As I put on my hat and strap down my boots, I know I have another hard day of bitter cold ahead of me. You see that is what I do. I stand on the street corners of Chicago and enlist new members in to the green revolution. One at a time our voice grows stronger, and with each new member we are closer than ever to setting retirement dates for these poisonous plants. It doesn't matter how cold it is or how much snow on the ground, myself, the Frontline Greenpeace members and other environmentalists stand true to our cause. Before we stand down, our air, soil and water will be safe from corporate greed once again.
The next time you see someone on your street corner fighting for a better environment, stop and give a listen. It might just change your life in ways you had never dreamed. Quit Coal now. Whether Chicago, New York, California or anywhere in between, take a moment to really go green and tell your elected representatives to do so too. One voice can make a difference! My picture is "Suffocation" an art piece done by me from an original photo of the Little Village Plant.
